Helotes Area Community Band

Helotes Band logoThe Helotes Area Community Band (HACB), under the direction of Chuck Kuentz, was organized in July 2008 with seven members and has grown to over 60 active musicians. Charles L. Kuentz, Jr., namesake of Kuentz Elementary School, was our original band director and now serves as director emeritus.

The HACB plays a variety of music from children’s songs to complex classical arrangements. The musicians are comprised of all ages and abilities, ranging from high school students to retired professionals. New musicians from Helotes and surrounding areas, who enjoy playing great music with others and are not afraid of a little hard work and dedication, are always welcome. Interested musicians are encouraged to email Chuck Kuentz, although, the HACB has a waiting list for trumpets and flutes.

The HACB performs at least three major concerts each year, including Movie Nights at the Park in the summer and various special events throughout the year. The group performed its first concert at the inaugural City of Helotes Movie Night on August 22, 2008 with 17 musicians. The most notable concerts were performed in the rotunda of the State Capitol in Austin on March 6, 2015 and March 8, 2019.

The HACB accepts donations of gently used equipment, especially percussion instruments. All donations are tax deductible.
