Trimming or Cutting of Oak Trees – Prohibited from 02/01 – 05/31

Oak Wilt Prevention Guidelines

Oak Wilt is a serious tree disease spread by sap-feeding beetles, especially in spring. To help prevent its spread, the trimming or cutting of oak trees is prohibited from February 1 – May 31 within Helotes city limits and its extraterritorial jurisdiction.

EXCEPTIONS FOR PROFESSIONALS
Professional tree care and landscaping companies may trim oaks during this period if they:
– Obtain a permit from the City of Helotes
– Apply wound dressing within 30 minutes of cutting
– Disinfect all trimming tools after each use
