The Helotes community has been targeted by a new wave of scam calls, with fraudsters impersonating officers from the Helotes Police Department. These deceptive individuals are attempting to exploit the trust that our community members place in local law enforcement by requesting sensitive personal information, such as credit card numbers, bank account details, or other private data.
Here’s What You Need to Know:
- Guard Your Personal Information: Under no circumstances should you ever share your credit card, bank account, or other sensitive information over the phone, especially if the caller claims to be from the police department. Scammers often use high-pressure tactics, trying to create a sense of urgency to trick you into revealing your personal data.
- The Helotes Police Department Will Never Ask for Sensitive Information Over the Phone: It’s important to remember that the Helotes PD will never request personal or financial information via a phone call. If you receive a call asking for such details, it’s a red flag that you’re dealing with a scammer.
- Trust Your Instincts: If something about the call feels off or seems suspicious, trust your gut. Scammers can be persuasive, but if the call feels spammy or the information doesn’t add up, it’s likely a scam. Always prioritize your safety and privacy.
- Report Suspicious Calls: If you receive a suspicious call, do not engage with the caller. Instead, hang up immediately and report the incident to the Helotes Police Department using their non-emergency number: (210) 695-2500. Providing details about the call can help the police in their efforts to protect others in the community from falling victim to these scams.
Stay Safe, Helotes!
It’s unfortunate that scammers are trying to take advantage of our community, but by staying informed and vigilant, we can protect ourselves and each other. Please share this information with friends and family to ensure everyone is aware of these scam attempts. If you ever have doubts about the legitimacy of a call, remember that it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Together, we can keep Helotes safe from scammers!
